Melissa Pender has been printing away at ELP preparing for her current exhibition at the Barbican, 'Passages'.
Melissa is predominately a print-maker using intaglio etching, screen-printing and relief techniques. This suite of work is made using photopolymer printmaking processes. This technique allows for original photographic images to be transferred to light sensitive plates. The plates are very sensitive and this allows for the rich range of tone. The plates are then inked and printed using traditional intaglio techniques.
In this exhibition Melissa investigates the passages of continuous movement between the past and the future. Her work explores modernist architecture with its historical promise and questions how these idealistic ideas have relevance today.
Until the 26th April
